Together We Believe. Together We Achieve
Curriculum & Teaching (Intent)
At Slater Primary School, our Art and Design curriculum is designed to inspire and nurture the creative potential of every student, reflecting the rich tapestry of our inner-city, multicultural community. We believe that through engaging with artistic traditions and contemporary practices, students can develop a profound appreciation for the arts and their role in society. We aim to empower students to express their unique identities, explore global cultures, and contribute thoughtfully to the world around them.
Personal Development & Wellbeing (Implementation)
Our curriculum is structured to progressively build skills and knowledge, with projects that are challenging yet accessible, allowing for adaptation and personalized learning. We provide extracurricular opportunities such as art clubs to extend learning beyond the classroom. Inclusive practices ensure that teaching materials and methods are culturally responsive, enabling every child to see themselves reflected in the curriculum. We give our children experiences to foster a sense of belonging in the wider artistic community.
Achievement (Impact)
Students develop confidence and proficiency in artistic skills while deepening their cultural understanding and critical thinking. They leave with the ability to interpret, critique, and create art that reflects both personal identity and global perspectives. Through art, pupils enhance resilience, emotional well-being, and readiness for future learning. Progress is evident in their ability to apply techniques, articulate ideas, and engage meaningfully with artistic concepts.
