History

At the moment, we’re learning about Ancient Greece. Below are some optional activities you could do at home to deepen your understanding of Greek life and culture.

You could choose one activity this half term and a different one next half term. You can do more if you would like to!

Remember: this history homework is optional – if you’d like to strengthen your knowledge and complete any of these tasks, then go for it! 🙂

  1. Myth Maker: Retell a Greek Myth

Choose a myth (e.g., Theseus and the Minotaur, Persephone, Hercules) and retell it as a comic strip, storyboard, or short narrative. Add a box explaining the “message” or what it helped Greeks explain.

  1. The Olympics Then and Now

Create a poster or table comparing the ancient Olympic Games to the modern Olympics (events, who could take part, rules, prizes, purpose).

  1. Build a Greek Temple (Model or Drawing)

Make a model from junk materials (or a detailed labelled drawing). Label features like columns, steps, pediment and write a paragraph to explain what a temple was for.

  1. Greek Pottery Story

Design a Greek vase. Use “Greek-style” patterns and pictures to tell a short story (a myth, a sports event, or daily life). Add captions.

  1. Greek Myth “Creature File” (mini bestiary)

Choose creatures or monsters from Greek myth (e.g., Minotaur, Medusa, Cyclops, Hydra, Pegasus) and create a “creature file”:

  • Appearance (labelled drawing)

  • Powers/weaknesses

  • Which myth it appears in

  • A “warning label” for modern visitors
