Together We Believe. Together We Achieve
Curriculum & Teaching (Intent)
At Slater Primary School, our vision for Geography education is to inspire and equip students with a profound understanding of the world, fostering curiosity and responsibility towards diverse environments and cultures. Recognising our inner-city, multicultural context, we aim to provide a curriculum that reflects and celebrates the rich diversity of our community while preparing pupils to engage thoughtfully with global challenges.
Our aims include:
• Local and Global Awareness: Deepen knowledge of Leicester and connect local features to global contexts.
• Cultural Diversity and Inclusion: Promote respect for different traditions and perspectives through cultural geography.
• Environmental Stewardship: Teach sustainable practices and the impact of human activity on the planet.
Personal Development & Wellbeing (Implementation)
We deliver geography through experiential learning, including field trips and outdoor education. Integrated technology such as digital mapping tools, supports analytical skills and geographical understanding. Lessons are sequenced to build knowledge progressively and include hands-on projects that make learning relevant and inclusive.
Achievement (Impact)
Pupils develop informed, empathetic, and proactive global citizenship. They demonstrate strong geographical knowledge, critical thinking, and the ability to apply concepts to real-world issues. Students leave with an appreciation of cultural diversity, environmental responsibility, and the skills to navigate and contribute positively to an ever changing world. Progress is evident in their ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate geographical information effectively.
